Wallace & Gromit in the Grand Getaway lands Emmy nomination

Wallace & Gromit in The Grand Getaway has been nominated for a 2024 Emmy Award in the Outstanding Emerging Media Program category.

After debuting at the Venice International Film Festival and enjoying a warm reception following its release on Meta Quest, the Emmy nomination marks a significant milestone for the beloved duo, showcasing their enduring appeal and innovative strides in virtual reality storytelling.

The Grand Getaway is a VR experience directed by Finbar Hawkins and Bram Ttwheam. Co-produced by Aardman and Atlas V in association with No Ghost and Albyon, and distributed by Astrea, this experience offers a joyful and playful virtual reality escapade.

Praised as a nostalgic journey and a unifying force for families, the adventure begins with a golfing holiday gone awry after a rocket launch mishap. The experience unfolds across twelve distinct chapters, inviting users to navigate a cinematic VR environment as Wallace, Gromit, or Auto-Caddy - a golfing contraption invented by Wallace.

Recognizing the diverse audience, from VR novices to seasoned aficionados, the team designed the game to be universally welcoming, showcasing the potential of VR while providing sufficient depth to satisfy more experienced users. This careful balancing act ensures that The Grand Getaway serves as an effective introduction to VR, demonstrating its unique capabilities without overwhelming new users.

The Emmy Awards final-round voting occurs from August 15th to 26th, and the award ceremony including Outstanding Emerging Media Program category will be on September 7th and 8th.
